"It Gets Easier!...And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers!"

People often ask me, “What is your book about?”  The answer is simple.  It’s a fun, humorous and honest book for a new mom written with one goal in mind - to make a new mom's life easier!
It's full of practical strategies for coping with motherhood using prescription, reflection and humor.

After coming home from the hospital with my firstborn son, I was clueless.
Everything from the labor and delivery to taking him home was new territory.  I felt like I had landed on another planet without a map.

I learned quickly that this new planet was NOT a vacation spot. I needed a new map!

Does this sound familiar?

When I looked on the bookshelves, I found lots of medical-type books that were helpful in the clinical sense but I was looking for the more personal side of new motherhood.  I wanted answers that were not so politically correct that they failed to provide any real direction.  I wanted personal experience.  I wanted someone who was going to come out and say it, “Motherhood is Really, Really Hard!  And “Here are some ways you can deal with it!”

It’s actually quite simple.

Provide new moms with a book that they will enjoy reading in an easy to read, conversational voice that covers the issues a new mom is facing with honesty and humor.

Here's what Susan Maushart best selling author of  “The Mask of Motherhood” has to say about the book “I think this is fabulous.  I love it. It’s clear, honest, fun and sensible.  What more could a mother ask for????”

The book begins at the beginning with labor and delivery, and provides some tips for making a New Mom’s hospital stay a little easier.  From there the book explores the truth about those first few days home from the hospital – the days that are never shown on TLC’s “A Baby Story”.  From there the book covers baby basics, not “how to” stuff, but some of those controversial issues that you’ve heard so much about when caring for a baby, ie schedules, burping, sleeping, etc. Once we’ve got the baby care down it’s time for the really fun stuff – how did the New Mom get here in the first place – for those Mom’s who may be having second thoughts about this “motherhood” thing.  Next, the book dives into the changes that occur in a New Mom’s relationship with her partner in a chapter entitled “What is a housewife and how did I become?”-  Issues such as - “How do I get all these visitors out of my house?” and the ever popular, “Why does he keep asking ME what’s for dinner?”

Amy Tiemann, creator of mojomom.com and Author of the award-winning Mojomom says, "It Gets Easier! And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers, gives new moms uncensored advice they won't find anywhere else.  Claudine tells it like it really is, with honesty and humor!  Any one of her tips could save you hours of hassle or even cut down on sleepless nights for you and your baby."

This book is for working moms as well as stay at home moms, as a working mother’s world changes just as drastically as a stay-at-home mom or part-time working mom. And no motherhood book from this generation would be complete without a discussion of the at-home mom vs. the working mom debate.  We all want to weigh in, let’s face it!

The book covers some really interesting observations about a new mom’s feeling of worth and her purpose in the world, especially after leaving my career.  I was certainly starting to wonder about those things as a new mom.  Finally, the book attempts to assuage “mother-guilt” in the final chapter covering some ways to be a “good” mom, that are so simple, it will take years of worry and guilt off your life.

Kate Fratti, Columnist, Bucks County Courier Times says "Any time women, especially mothers, talk to one another honestly about their experiences, there's powerful good to be gained. Here, Claudine Wolk has done just that. My hat's off to her."

Does this sound like a winning proposition?

Sit back, give your self a break and enjoy!  You are not alone!  You are a good mother!   There are things you can do to make motherhood a little easier...
